Lightning double up Caps, 6-3 Update to follow

In Tampa, the Lighting put up a four spot in the first period and defeated the visiting Washington Capitals in a rematch from Friday night, 6-3.

Mikhail Sergachev hit for a double in the fist period outburst.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 19 saves for the Tampa win.

Nikita Kucherov and Nick Perbix also scored in the first period.

Tampa improved to 7-6-1.

Connor Sheary broke the Lightning run in the middle frame when he scored for the Caps to make it 4-1.

The two teams traded goals in the third period. The Lightning’s Cole Koepke and Nicholas Paul scored.

Washington dropped to 7-7-2.

The Caps replied with strikes from Lars Eller and Garnet Hathaway.

Paul’s goal was an empty-net strike.

Darcy Kuemper got the start for the Caps and yielded all four first period goals by the Bolts. He made five saves before getting the hook late in the opening frame.

Charlie Lindgren made 24 saves in relief, allowing one goal.
