Lightning disappoint Blue Jackets in their home opener Update to follow

In Columbus, Steven Stamkos hit for a double for the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 4-2 win over the Blue Jackets.

The loss spoiled the home debut of Columbus’ prize acquisition over the summer, Johnny Gaudreau.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 26 saves in the Lighting win.

Gaudreau and Gustav Nyquist were the Columbus strikers.

Gaudreau scored early in the opening period to give the Blue Jackets a 1-0 lead, but Corey Perry  scored in the 15th minute of the frame to tie the game, 1-1.

The Perry goal came off the power play .

Stamkos gave the the Bolts a 2-1 lead less than 90 seconds later.

The Blue Jackets replied with a goal from Nyquist scored less than 30 seconds after that goal for a 2-2 tie.

Tampa took the lead for good in the middle frame with a strike from Ross Colton .

Cal Foote. scored to give the Lightning a 4-2 lead.

Stamkos  picked up his second goal of the game at 7:57 of the third period for the 5-2 final.

Daniil Tarasov made 34 saves in the Columbus loss.
