In Calgary, the Tampa Bay Lightning cooled off the Flames with a 6-3 win.
The win was only the second in nine games for the Bolts.
“We simplified our game is what we did,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “We skated. We’ve had a bad habit of trying to place the puck in the net. … There’s always a better play to be made. We shot the puck a lot more tonight. We played all three zones as five. That really helped our attack and helped us.”
Brian Boyle and Alex Killorn each had two goals and Braydon Coburn and Andrej Sustr added single markers in the win.
Calgary’s goals came from Troy Brouwer, TJ Brodie and Micheal Ferland.
The Flames had a six-game streak snapped in the loss.
“This isn’t easy,” Calgary coach Glen Gulutzan said. “You hope you create these runs and we got ourselves back above board, but it’s a lesson here, too. You can’t take your foot off the gas at all, you can’t lose little battles, you can’t lose faceoffs at the rate we were, which caused us a lot of trouble and disrupted our team a little bit.”

Ben Bishop made 19 saves in the win as the Bolts improved to 15-13-2.
Chad Johnson got the start for the Flames but got the hook in the third period and was replaced by Brian Elliot; Elliot gave up an early goal to the Lightning with just 37 seconds gone in the third to make the score 5-1.
“It’s a great League and it’s hard to go on long win streaks, so ultimately that’s going to happen and it’s just a matter of us refocusing, regrouping and bouncing back for next game,” Calgary’s Sam Bennett said.
