Lighting edge Vegas, 3-2

Friday night in Las Vegas, the Golden Knights surrendered goals to Tyler Johnson, Brayden Point and J.T. Miller of the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 3-2 loss.

The win puts the Bolts’ record at a gaudy 7-1-1.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 29 saves to get the win.

“Give Vegas credit, they made a big push, but our goalie was there when we needed him and it’s a big win in a tough spot on the road,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “He was nominated for the Vezina (Trophy) last year, and that wasn’t by fluke. When we have our breakdowns, he’s been a rock for us.”

The Knights dropped to 4-5-1 with the loss.

“That’s a really good hockey team,” Lightning defenseman Dan Girardi said. “They’re Stanley Cup finalists for a reason, so we’ll take those two points. It’s a tough building to play in, it’s exciting and fun to play in, but we’re going to take these two points and move on to Arizona.”

Shea Theodore and William Karlssonhad the Vegas goals.

“We learned from this game that we need to be there for a full 60 minutes,” Karlsson said. “You can’t just show up in the third.”

Marc-Andre Fleury made 20 saves in the loss.

“We were still in it. It’s 3-1 and to just keep battling. One goal could change the whole momentum. I think we got a lot of it from that power play. The rest of the period, we played really well,” Karlsson said after the game.
