Levine notches third shutout in eight games as Eagles beat Americans 1-0

ALLEN, Texas – Eagles goaltender Eric Levine stopped all 32 shots thrown his way, while forward Johnny Lazo scored the game-winner in his Eagles debut in a 1-0 Colorado victory over the Allen Americans on Friday. Levine’s shutout was his third of the season and improves him to 6-2-0 since joining the Eagles last month.

The newest Eagle wasted little time in making his presence felt, as Lazo tipped home a feed along the top of the crease, beating Allen goaltender Riley Gill along the ice to give Colorado at 1-0 lead 7:57 into the opening period of play. It was a one-goal advantage that would stand at the conclusion of twenty minutes, with the Eagles and Americans each posting 11 shots in the frame.

Colorado would outshoot the Americans 15-6 in the second period of play and earned themselves two powerplays in the process. Gill would keep the Eagles at bay, however and Colorado would head to the dressing room with their 1-0 lead still intact after 40 minutes.

Allen would turn the tables on the Eagles on the third period, firing 15 shots on net and holding Colorado to just four shots in the final 20 minutes. They would also kill-off a four minute Eagles powerplay, after Allen defenseman David Makowski was sent to the penalty box for high-sticking at the 10:49 mark of the third.

The Americans would pull Gill in favor of the extra attacker with just over one minute to play, but Levine and the Eagles would not allow Allen to find the back of the net and held on for the 1-0 win. Gill finished the night with 29 saves on 30 shots in the contest.

The Eagles will conclude their six-game roadtrip on Sunday, January 10th when they take on the defending ECHL Kelly Cup Champions at the Allen Event Center at 3:05pm MST.
