Lerg sets record with shutout of Brampton

TOLEDO, Ohio – Jeff Lerg posted his seventh shutout in a Toledo uniform leading the Walleye to a 5-0 win over Brampton Friday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 41-16-2-3 and 24-6-0-1 on home ice. Toledo hosts Evansville Saturday night.

Toledo struck with a pair of goals just 42 seconds apart in the first period of play to take a 2-0 lead. The first came off of the stick of Tyler Maxwell (9th) at 12:29 when he deflected Ralfs Freibergs pass into the Brampton net. Kyle Bonis (10th) set up at the side of the Brampton to tip in his first of two goals on the night.

The quick strike offense was alive again in the second period when Tylor Spink picked up his first professional goal just 27 seconds in. Tyler Sikura (14th) deflected a blue line shot from Joe Sova just 1:08 into the second period.

Bonis was at it again just 29 seconds into the third period going five hole with a wrist shot through the pads of Brampton goaltender Kenny Reiter for a 5-0 lead.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped all 32 shots he faced from the Brampton Beast and his record is 26-7-1-2 on the season. The 7th career shutout for Lerg sets a new Toledo ECHL record for career shutouts breaking the old mark of six set by David Goverde from 1995-1997. Toledo is 8-1-1 against the Beast this season.
