In Washington, DC, Michael Amadio scored the Vegas Golden Knights’ only goal in their game with the Capitals on Monday night.
It was enough, as Robin Lehner made 34 saves in a 1-0 shutout.
“We don’t win tonight unless our goalie’s really good. We needed that from ‘Lenny,'” Vegas head coach Peter DeBoer said.
Vegas improved to 25-15-2.
“It’s nice when I get a shutout, for sure, but it’s just nice to start the road trip with a win,” Lehner said. “Big road trip and it was two big points for us.”
Amadio scored early in the middle frame.
“I just found myself in front of the net trying to battle and I snuck behind their defenders and just tapped it in there,” Amadio said.
Washington was scoreless in five power play chances, including a two-man advantage after the Knights took the lead.
“We’re not hitting the panic button,” the Capitals’ Tom Wilson said. “We’re still a good hockey team, we’ve still got a lot of good pieces. We’re still in a really good spot in the standings. That being said, we’ve got to turn it around. We’ve got to find our consistency.”
The Capitals fell to 23-11-9.
“Everybody hates losing,” Washington head coach Peter Laviolette said. “Nobody likes the scoreboard and the way it looks right now, so that’s what’s lousy about it. But I think if the guys continue to work and do the right things, eventually they’ll get rewarded.”
Vitek Vanecek made 28 saves in the Caps loss.
