Leafs double-up Minnesota, 4-2

The Toronto Maple Leafs’ Frederik Andersen made 35 stops Wednesday night on home ice to help the Leafs defeat the Minnesota Wild, 4-2.

Talk before the game was Andersen’s change of pregame routine.

“I guess I have to go test my skates out every day now,” Andersen said. “It’s more of maintaining and making sure your body is rested. Sometimes you have to listen to our sports science guys. When you get a good feeling, you want to try to replicate that kind of mindset. Once you get that mindset, you feel better in the game and better before the game.”

Leafs goals came from Nazem Kadri, Patrick Marleau, Connor Carrick and Connor Brown .

Jason Zucker struck for both Wild goals.

“It’s night and day. Obviously our last game (a 5-3 loss to the Boston Bruins on Monday) was a terrible effort, terrible game for us,” the Wild’s Ryan Suter said after the loss and game effort. “Tonight, we wanted to come in and do what we did. Obviously we didn’t get the end result we wanted, but I thought it was a step towards the right direction. The only way out of this is just hard work and we’ve got to get to work.”

Devan Dubnyk made 15 saves in the loss as the Wild dropped to 5-7-2 and have lost three straight.

“We played a great hockey game, we generated a lot and had the puck for the vast majority of the game,” Dubnyk said. “We were real close to getting another goal. [Andersen] played well and we were creating a lot. If you play a game like that, you’re going to end up right side more often than not; we have to stick to that.”
