In Raleigh, the Hurricanes and visiting Arizona Coyotes skated through to the final minute of regulation on Saturday to a 1-1 tie, but the Canes’ Dmitry Orlov scored with 36 seconds left on the third period clock to give Carolina a 2-1 lead.
Jesper Fast added an insurance marker with 22 seconds left on the game clock for a 3-1 final count on the scoreboard.
Antti Raanta made 11 saves in the win.
The Hurricanes moved to 28-15-5.
Arizona took a 1-0 lead in the opening stanza when Logan Cooley was credited with a goal at 14:21 after the puck glanced off his knee and into the net for the score.
The Coyotes dropped to 23-22-1 off their third straight loss.
Martin Necas tied the game, 1-1, at 7:57 of the middle frame off a 4-on-3 power play.
The game remained that score until the Orlov goal in the third.
Connor Ingram made 36 saves in the loss.
