Late strike wins it for Clan

The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan stormed their way to a regulation win at home over the Dundee Stars on Boxing Day as they start to build momentum heading into the new year.

The Clan held early pressure with Brady Risk and Richard Jarusek getting shots on net in the opening few minutes while Matthew Boudens forced a catcher save out of Sami Aittokallio at the other end in Dundee’s first chance at attack.

Deven Sideroff got the goals flowing with some great reflexes as he dragged the puck into the crease and it bobbled up off of Jarrett Fiske’s stick for the captain to bat out the air with the backhand to put the Clan in front after seven minutes.

Jackson Desouza ripped a shot from the blue line which sailed along the ice and was redirected by Keanu Yamamoto but Aittokallio made a great blocker save to snuff out the Stars’ best chance of the period.

Risk forced another save by Fiske when he sent a shot high on net from a sharp angle which had to be shouldered away by the Stars’ goaltender who had a strong opening 20 minutes in the crease.

Kameron Keilly levelled for Dundee after a faceoff win in the offensive zone allowed the #10 to skate into open ice at the top of the left circle and he didn’t waste the opportunity with a fine finish into the top corner to even the count going into the third.

After a quiet middle frame, the Stars put Glasgow under pressure in the third period with captain, Drydn Dow and top point-scorer, Matt Berry generating chances for the visitors, but they couldn’t find a way to net.

The Clan alleviated pressure mounting on their powerplay after poor recent form with the extra skater as Steven Seigo corked a beautiful bardown shot past Fiske to reinstate the hosts’ lead.

Dundee continued to press after Seigo’s go-ahead goal but Aittokallio and a well-organised defensive core by Glasgow held them off and Brady Risk sealed the two points with a long-range empty net goal to round off a boxing day victory in Braehead.
