In Raleigh, the Carolina Hurricanes’ Brendan Smith scored with just under three minutes left on the regulation clock on Saturday to give the Canes a 3-2 lead over the St Louis Blues.

Alex Lyon made that lead stand up for the with, he 27 saves in his Carolina debut.

“Coming up to the NHL is something I’ve battled for a long time, just trying to find my way,” Lyon said. “Hopefully I’m good enough to be up here. I feel like every time I play up here, it gets a little easier.”

The Canes improved to 11-2-0.

Pavel Buchnevich (power play)  and Vladimir Tarasenko rallied the Blues back from an 0-2 deficit.

Brady Skjei staked the Canes to 1-0 lead with just over a minute gone in the game.

Sebastian Aho pushed the lead to 2-0 on a power play strike early in the middle frame.

Buchnevich cut the deficit to one goal just past the midway point of the second period.

“In the room, going out for the third, I think we were excited,” St. Louis’ Ryan O’Reilly said. “We knew we were going to find a way to put ourselves back and find a way to win a hockey game. We came out strong and had momentum.”

Tarasenko got the game even, 2-2, with 48 seconds gone in the third period.

Joel Hofer made 21 saves in the St Louis loss.
