Late Power Play Marker Sinks Jets

WINNIPEG – It was another one of those games that the Winnipeg Jets will look back on and say that’s the one that got away from us. A late power play marker with 1:09 left to play in regulation proved to be the winner as the New York Rangers stole two points with a 2-1 win in Winnipeg.Rangers logo

Winnipeg took a high sticking penalty with 2:56 remaining in the third period 200 feet from their own net and it ended up costing the team at least a point.

Kevin Hayes of the Rangers scored his 11th as he found a loose puck on the door step to deposit the winner.

Michael Hutchinson was making a rare start as he was in goal for the fifth time in the last 19 games for Winnipeg. Hutchinson stopped 22 of 24 Ranger shots and made a number a big stops to keep the Jets in this one.

The Jets welcomed back Mark Scheifele as he has missed the last three games with a lower body injury and he was the lone goal scorer for the Jets as he scored his 14th of the year after finding a Dustin Byfuglien point shot rebound.

The Rangers started back up goalie Antti Raanta and he stopped 17 shots and had some help from his posts and also had big blocked shots from a few of his teammates to get the win.

The Rangers were missing a couple of their top guys as Jimmy Vessey and Rick Nash were both missing from the line up with injuries.

Winnipeg hit the iron on three occasions as Andrew Copp , Byfuglien and the snake bit Nik Ehlers rang shots off the posts.

Special teams played a role as the Rangers scored on two power plays and the Jets were 0 for 3 and had no sniff at anything .

Winnipeg will head out to play Calgary and Edmonton this weekend and will look to get back to their winning ways.
