Late goal wins it for Guildford

Justin Fazio made 46 saves and the Flames powerplay struck twice to secure a 2-1 win over the visiting Belfast Giants.

20 minutes of opening period play went by with no scoring thanks to 11 saves from Justin Fazio and 7 at the Belfast end where Alexis Gravel was guarding the cage.

Giants finally hit the scoresheet with a JJ Piccinich strike shortly after re-start, but a 28th minute Mathieu Gosselin powerplay goal levelled it at a goal each to begin the 3rd.

Abut halfway through the final set a Flames powerplay was a chance to take a lead. They couldn’t make that one count, but with a 2nd bite of the Apple on a follow up extra man situation a few minutes later, Jack Jacome put Flames in front. With just over 2 minutes to play, the visitors went with 6 skaters and an empty net as they tried to level.  Unfortunately for them, 64 seconds from time another Giants infraction forced them to try and tie the game while killing a penalty and Flames were able to ride out the remaining time to secure the win.

Fazio turned away all but 1 of 47 shots while Gravel was good on 20 of 22.
