In Hershey Wednesday night, the Lake Erie Monsters continued their rampage through the American Hockey League playoffs with a 4-1 road win over the Bears.
Daniel Zaar led the Monsters offense with two goals.
The Bears’ Jakub Vrana gave the Monsters a 1-0 lead when he beat the Monsters’
Anton Forsberg at 15:42.
Forsberg settled down after that goal and made 28 saves for the win.
The Monsters got on the board at 7:48 of the second period when Zaar scored his first of two goals on the night.
The remained of the middle frame went scoreless and it was not until 5:39 of the third period that Trent Vogelhuber scored what would be the game-winner on a deflection off a Bears’ D-man.
Zaar made it 3-1 with less than seven minutes to play in regulation.
Markus Hannikainen added insurance with less than five minutes to go in the third period.
Justin Peters took the loss for the Bears with 22 saves.
Game 2 of the Calder Cup Final is set for Friday in Hershey (7 p.m. ET, AHL Live, SiriusXM 91).
