CLEVELAND – The Lake Erie Monsters are on a roll; one that has been churning through the American Hockey League post season.
On Monday night they defeated the Hershey Bears, 3-2, on a goal from Oliver Bjorkstrand, his second of the night, 1:20 into extra overtime.
The win gives the Monsters a 3-0 series lead with a chance to wrap up the Calder Cup this weekend on home ice.
The Monsters are now 14-2 in the post season.
Anton Forsberg picked up the win for Lake Erie on 17 saves and is now 8-0 in the playoffs.
Once again Hershey jumped out to the lead this time on a goal from Ryan Stanton with just over two minutes gone in the first period.
The Monsters replied with Bjorkstrand’s first goal of the game at 6:44 of the first.
Lake Erie took the lead late in the second period on a blast from Daniel Zaar to beat Justin Peters for the 2-1 lead.
That lead lasted than a minute when the Bears’ Dustin Gazley found the back of the net to send the teams to the intermission tied at two all.
Peters made 25 saves in the hard luck loss. After a solid march through the Eastern Conference Finals, Peters has dropped to 11-8 in the playoffs.
