Kuemper, Wild get past Oilers, 5-2

On Tuesday in Edmonton, the Minnesota Wild’s Darcy Kuemper made the most of his backup start and stopped 41 Oilers shots in a 5-2 Wild win.

“He [Kuemper] played great, I thought it was his best game of the year,” Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said. “He controlled rebounds. That’s been sort of a little bit of a problem in the past when he’s had a rough night, but tonight, he controlled them really well and caught pucks and settled things down for us when we needed them settled down.”

Tyler Graovac had two goals in the win.

Jason Zucker, Zach Parise and Chris Stewart also scored for Minnesota.

Cam Talbot yielded four goals on the 19 shots he faced and was given the ever easier hook in the second period.

“Cam has been really good all over and winning a lot of games for us. Everybody has a bad night a couple of times per season. We have to stick up for him, for sure,” Edmonton’s Oscar Klefbom said of Talbot.

Laurent Brossoit relieved Talbot giving up one goal.

“It was catastrophic mistakes, often just by individuals, that really caused us problems,” Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. “We were flat, we didn’t execute well, we weren’t good around the net. They were the better team. We got what we deserved.”
