Kucherov leads Lightning past Detroit in 3-2 win

In Detroit Monday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Nikita Kucherov struck for two goals in a 3-2 win over the Red Wings.

Kucherov has scored in each of the Bolts’ six games.

“I’m not thinking about streaks,” Kucherov said. “I just want to help our team. The wins we are getting now will help us a lot over the rest of the season.”

Tyler Johnsonpotted a shorthanded goal for the Lightning.

“Right now, we’re just trying to get him the puck as much as we can,” Tampa’s Steve Stamkos said. “He’s got so much confidence and he can score in so many different ways.”

Andrei Vasilevskiy has started all six Tampa Bay games and made 29 saves to pick up the win Monday night.

“He’s been huge for us,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “We haven’t always been great during these six games, but Andrei has kept us alive when we have a bad stretch.”

Detroit’s goals came from Justin Abdelkader and Mike Green.

The Wings were unable to convert on any of the six power play opportunities they had on the night.

“We should have had a couple power-play goals,” Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg said. “We had the chances but didn’t finish.”

“I thought we were the better team 5-on-5, but they got those two on special teams and we didn’t get any,” Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said.
