Krushelnyski nets winner as Royals down Railers

READING, PA – Reading Royals forward Alex Krushelnyski ripped the game-winning one-timer from the left circle with 9:19 left to give Reading the edge in a 4-2 win over the Worcester Railers Wednesday at Santander Arena. John Muse made 19 saves for his seventh straight win, a professional high.

Krushelnyski received a short pass from Brian Morgan and unloaded a shot to the far post to provide the lead. Matt Willows (1 goal, 1 assist) iced the game with an empty-net tally in the final ten seconds.

The Royals trailed twice before Krushelnyski’s decisive tally. Reading leads the season series, 5-4, against the Railers.

Eamon McAdam lost with 29 saves. Both teams were 0-for-1 on the man up.

The Royals allowed the opening goal at 7:11 of the first to Kellen Jones. Nolan Zajac helped the Royals tie it at one before the period ended. Willows swooped behind the net and fed to the slot for the cutting Zajac. The defenseman cranked in his 8th of the season.

Zajac’s last two goals have come against Worcester.

Railers forward Barry Almeida broke the tie with a breakaway goal at 7:02 of the second.

Reading responded in the final half of the period again. McCarthy received a slot feed from Matt Wilkins and slammed a quick shot past McAdam with 4:22 to go in the second.

Krushelnyski’s strike was his third game-winning goal, tied for the team lead.

Reading returns to the ice on Friday, January 12th at 7 p.m.when the Adirondack Thunder invade Santander Arena.
