DURHAM, UK – The Braehead Clan have appointed Jordan Krestanovich as player/coach following Drew Bannister’s decision to leave his position with the Scottish club in order to pursue a coaching career in North America. Krestanovich has iced for the Clan in the past 2 seasons posting better than a point per game in each campaign.
The 31 year old looks to be a great appointment given the wealth of experience he has acquired since he began his career with the Calgary Hitmen back in 1997. Jordan was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in 1999 and he went onto make 22 appearances in the NHL between 2001 and 2004 picking up 2 assists and 6 minutes in penalties. Krestanovich went onto in the ECHL and in Italy before moving to the UK in the summer of 2010.
It has also been confirmed that the Clan’s bench coach Frank Morris will be back at the Braehead Arena next term to assist Krestanovich. This will be Morris’s third season with the organisation as he was also bench coach during the tenures of previous player/coach’s Bruce Richardson and Drew Bannister.
One area of the team that Krestanovich will no doubt have to focus on in the coming weeks and months is the sides defence as Braehead have lost the services of both Bannister and Jim Jorgenson since the end of last season which severely weakens the side’s blue line presence. However given there are still around 3 months to go till the start of the next season Jordan will have plenty of time to assess just which players he wishes to bring into the club.
