In Columbus, the visiting Seattle Kraken won their ninth straight and extended their active point streak to 13 games in a 7-4 thumping of the Blue Jackets on Saturday.
Joey Daccord made 30 saves in the win.
The Kraken improved to 19-14-9.
“Obviously, our defense had been playing very well,” Seattle’s Jared McCann said. “Our [defensemen] are making our lives easier as forwards getting the pucks out. We’re blocking a lot of shots, and Joey’s been incredible for us. We owe a lot to him, but it’s been a great team game so far.”
McCann hit for a double and three points in the win.
Ivan Provorov scored a pair of goals for the Blue Jackets, his first came at 1:41 of the opening stanza for a 1-0 lead to Columbus.
Seattle replied with a strike by Jordan Eberle at 11:3 for a 1-1 tie.
Provorov collected his double at 12:10 to regain the lead for the Blue Jackets, but McCann hit for his first of the game to knot it at 2-2 at 15:31.
“We were rolling,” the Blue Jackets’ Cole Sillinger said. “I thought we let our foot off the gas towards the end of the first, especially in the second, and they got a couple there in the third. You’ve got to play a full 60 (minutes) to win in this league.”
Columbus dropped to 13-21-9.
“To be a good team, you have to be able to hold onto leads and win games,” Provorov said. “So far, we haven’t been able to figure that out.
“In the second (period) overall as a team we tried to do too much, got away from what was working for us in the first. We went into the second intermission with a one-goal deficit. Afterward we pushed hard, but sometimes when you try to come from behind it doesn’t always work out.”
Columbus took a 3-2 lead at 4:43 of the middle frame off a marker from Kirill Marchenko off a two-skater advantage power play.
“Not everything went the way we wanted tonight, but not for a second was there panic, wasted emotion the bench,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “Our guys realized we weren’t at our best and just tried to simplify and give ourselves a chance.”
From there, the Kraken reeled off four straight goals to wrest control of the game.
The first two goals of the rally came from Tye Kartye at 9:45, and Oliver Bjorkstrand , off the power play, at 13:4 for a 4-3 lead to Seattle headed to the third period.
McCann potted his double at 6:17 of the third period for a 5-3 advantage to the Kraken.
Brian Dumoulin padded the lead at 8:28 of the third to push the advantage to 6-3.
The Blue Jackets ended the outburst when Emil Bemstrom scored at 12:24 to make it 6-4 on the scoreboard.
Eeli Tolvanen hit an empty net at 18:55 for the 7-4 final count on the scoreboard.
“It’s good in games that we’re not playing well that we find a way to kind of turn the switch and start playing hockey,” Bjorkstrand said. “We came out not in the best way, and I think we found our way a little bit. It’s a positive that we were able to find a way to win.”
Daniil Tarasov made 29 saves in the loss.
“Did I like his game? I thought it was just average,” he said. “But we’re seeing him play really well, so we’ll evaluate and go from there.”
