In Los Angeles, the Kings’ Joonas Korpisalo made 20 saves in a 3-0 shut out of the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night.
“I felt pretty good, and the guys let me see the puck, and my job is to take care of the rest,” said Korpisalo.
Arthur Kaliyev scored in the middle frame to give the LA a 1-0 lead.
“We were tight defensively,” said Los Angeles forward Phillip Danault, who had an assist. “It’s the right time of the year, that’s for sure. We want to keep building, obviously.”
The Kings improved to 46-25-10, and remained two points ahead of the Seattle Kraken for third in the Pacific Division.
Vladislav Gavrikov pushed the LA lead to 2-0 in the third period.
“I think he’s still discovering himself as a [defenseman],” Danault said of Gavrikov. “He knows he can bring more, like he’s doing right now, which is awesome. Defensively, his stick is just amazing. … Joining the attack like that and scoring goals is big for us.”
The Canucks dropped to 36-37-7.
“Just the goals didn’t come tonight,” Vancouver forward Sheldon Dries said. “Give their goalie credit, he played well…There’s energy to go around. We just got to find a way to capitalize.”
Drew Doughty hit an empty net with less than two minutes left on the game clock for the 3-0 final.
Collin Delia made 25 saves in the Vancouver loss.
“I thought our defense was pretty solid,” Delia said. “We had good structure, good communication. We had good pressure, good chances. It just didn’t fall for us tonight, unfortunately.”
