Korpisalo, Blue Jackets blank Senators

In Columbus, Joonas Korpisalo made 25 saves in a 1-0 shut out win for the Bleu Jackets over the visiting Ottawa Senators.

“It’s nice, but most important we got back to the right way getting points,” Korpisalo said. “We did a good job taking away their rebounds. I saw the puck all night.”

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored the game’s only goal with 21 seconds gone in the third period.

“We knew they were a big box-out team and we needed to get in there,” the Senators’ Jean-Gabriel Pageau said. “I guess it wasn’t enough to score one. It looked like nothing was going on. Both teams were playing a solid neutral zone game.”

The Blue Jackets have won four of their last five.

“I thought Oliver Bjorkstrand, in a mess of a game, played one of his better games as far as how hard he was on the puck,” Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella said after the win.

The Senators are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games.

“There wasn’t much out there for either team,” Senators head coach D.J. Smith said. “They stayed with it a little longer and got us on an icing, and then they scored on a face-off.”

Craig Anderson took the hard luck loss on 18 saves.

“We knew going in that both were kind of similar teams, shut down and clog it up and try to win 1-0,” Anderson said. “That was kind of the game plan. If you go over to their side, that was the game plan as well.”
