Kopitar drives LA to 4-2 win over Detroit Kopitar scores goal and adds three assists

In Los Angeles Monday night, Anze Kopitar had a goal and three assists in a 4-2 Kings win over the Detroit Red Wings.

“I feel pretty good,” Kopitar said.

Tyler Toffoli , Alec Martinez and Dwight King also scored for the Kings.

“It’s no secret that the guys have tried to pick up his leadership aspect, but I think that is starting to take it to another level,” Martinez said of Kopitar. “I think he’s one of the LA Kings 3rdbest players in the world and maybe he doesn’t get enough credit because of where we are geographically. It’s awesome to see the guy control the pace of the game.”

For Detroit, it was the first loss on their current six-game road trip; they are 4-1-0 so far.

“Not good enough, to be honest,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. “I thought for two periods we were good. But in the second, we just weren’t good enough. We’ve got to have more energy than that. I’d say, individually, there’s some guys that have to give a little bit more.”

Jimmy Howard took the loss for Detroit on 27 saves.

“I have pretty high standards for myself,” Howard said. “I demand a lot from myself and tonight was not a good performance.”

After Toffoli scored in the first, Alexey Marchenko and Tomas Tatar picked up goals for the Wings who took a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Jonathan Quick picked up the win on 25 and the Kings improved to 27-13-3.
