Komets move within one game of series sweep

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Komets stunned the Grizzlies at Utah 3-1 Wednesday night to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference semifinals series.

Utah scored on their first shot of the first period at 2:49 and held on to a 1-0 lead until Shawn Szydlowski solved Grizzlie goaltender Mark Owuya at 1:50 of the third period to tie the game at 1-1.

Mike Embach gave the Komets a 2-1 lead at 5:21 before Garrett Thompson sealed the victory with 1:30 remaining in the match for Fort Wayne’s third unanswered marker of the stanza.

Komet netminder Pat Nagle earned the win making 20 saves on 21 shots.  Owuya suffered the loss allowing three goals on 31 shots.

The Komets can finish Utah Friday night when the two teams meet for the fourth game of the series at 9:30pm ET at the Maverik Center.
