Komets get back in series with OT win over Toledo Komets win 3-2

FORT WAYNE, Ind – Martin Frk scored twice and Jeff Lerg stopped 39 shots but the Komets took game three in overtime 3-2 at Fort Wayne on Tuesday night. Toledo leads the best of seven series 2-1 with game four coming Thursday night in Fort Wayne.

The Walleye took a 1-0 lead when Martin Frk picked up his first goal of the playoffs with a wrist shot that found the top right corner of the net at 4:13 of the first period. Shane Fort Wayne Komets logoBerschbach and Troy Schwab picked up the assists on the lone goal of the first period.

The Komets tied the game in the second period at 9:35 on a goal from Mitchell Heard. Both teams amped up the physical play in the period with big hits from both sides. In the third period, Frk let a slap shot go from the top of the left circle and gave Toledo a 2-1 lead at 13:23. The Komets sent the game into overtime when Paul Crowder sent in a rebound with just 27 seconds left.

Fort Wayne’s Mike Embach capitalized by jumping on a rebound at 6:09 of overtime to give the Komets the win.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 39 of the 42 shots he faced in the contest and has a record of 5-4 in the playoffs. Toledo finished the game 0-4 on the power play. Fort Wayne out shot Toledo 42-23 in the contest.
