Komets cruise past Thunder

Fort Wayne, IN (Feb. 25th) –  Fort Wayne scored three times in the first and knocked off Wichita on Saturday night by the final of 6-0 at Memorial Coliseum.

Shawn Szydlowski made it 1-0 at 3:58. He stole the puck on the right wall, skated up on a shorthanded two-on-one, dished a pass to the slot that hit a skate and went past Scott Greenham. At 12:28, Garrett Thompson made it 2-0 as he found a loose puck that dribbled across the crease and he buried it for his 16th of the season. Trevor Cheek scored his first of three at 13:46 as he won a face-off and fired a wrist shot past Greenham.

The Komets added two more in the second period. Cody Sol caught a pass near the blue line and wristed a shot through traffic to make it 4-0. Cheek potted his second of the contest at 7:48 and his 11th of the season that increased the lead to 5-0. Greenham was taken out of the game and Drew Owsley came on in relief.

Cheek tallied his third of the game at 8:08 as he caught a seam pass up the right side and beat Owsley with a backhand to make it 6-0.

Fort Wayne evens up the season-series as both teams win on home-ice. Greenham suffers the loss, stopping 11 of 16 shots. Bartus grabs his third shutout of the season, stopping all 28 shots he faced.

Wichita went 0-for-4 on the power play. Fort Wayne was 0-for-3 on the man advantage.

The Thunder finishes their three-in-three with an afternoon meeting against Quad City at 4:05 p.m.
