Fort Wayne, IN– The Komets cut Toledo’s best-of-seven series lead in half with a 2-1 overtime win Wednesday night at the Memorial Coliseum in front of 5,556 Fort Wayne faithful.
Toledo’s Zach Gallant opened the scoring after two scoreless periods at 9:34 of the third. Then, with Fort Wayne goaltender Zach Fucale pulled in favor of the extra attacker, Shawn Szydlowski scored from a scrum in front of the Walleye net with 22 seconds remaining in regulation time and forced the extra session.
At 18:01 of overtime Kevin Gibson scored on a blast from the point for the Fort Wayne victory. Komet netminder Fucale logged the win making 41 saves on 42 shots while Toledo’s Pat Nagle allowed two goals on 43 shots. Both teams were scoreless on the power play. The Komets had four man advantages and the Walleye had six power play chances.
Toledo leads the Central division semifinals 2-1. Game 4 will be held this Friday night at 8:05 on Coliseum Sweetwater Ice. Game 5 will face off at 7:35pm Saturday in Toledo.
If necessary, game 6 will be back in Fort Wayne Tuesday, April 23 and if game 7 if needed it will be held at the Huntington Center in Toledo Wednesday, April 24.
