In Tampa, four different skaters has strikes for the Carolina Hurricanes, and Pyotr Kochetkov made 22 saves in a 4-0 shutout of the Lightning on Saturday night.
“He was solid,” Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “He looked like nothing was going to get by him tonight.”
Carolina improved to 9-6-0.
“Last two times we’ve played these guys we shut these guys out, so there’s a little give and take,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. “For us, though, to come home for just two home games and go back on the road, we’ve got to get these points. So, it’s disappointing to come out of these two games without points.”
Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho scored early in the first period to give the Canes a 2-0 lead.
Teravainen hit off the power play for a 1-0 lead with under four minutes gone in the period.
“At the end of the day, they were desperate and got an early power-play goal,” Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman said. “We know exactly what they are going to bring, and they were on it. When we got settled on the power play, I thought we had some good chances, but this wasn’t our night.”
After a scoreless second period, Brent Burns connected at 11:20 of the third for a 3-0 lead to the Canes.
“To be doing what he’s doing, I don’t know if he’s 38 or 39, but he’s been doing it a long time,” Skjei said of Burns, who is 38. “He takes care of his body, and he still obviously has a huge impact on the game and the team. It’s fun to sit by him in the locker room every day and be able to take things from him on a daily basis.”
Tampa dropped to 6-5-4.
Stefan Noesen added a a marker with just over two minutes left on the game clock for the 4-0 final.
“I love a good puck battle, and I think that sets up pretty good for the system we play,” Noesen said. “My forte is being in front of the net. I appreciate someone letting me do my thing.”
Jonas Johansson made 28 saves in the loss.
