With time winding down in the extra session, James Neal netted the game-winner for the Las Vegas Golden Knights to beat the Arizona Coyotes, 2-1.
The win gives the Knights a 2-0-0 record so far.
“Yesterday was honestly one of the best feelings I’ve had in hockey, and we said we wanted to follow it up again today and get a big win and go home a happy team,” Neal said. “We were pushing. We were right there, I thought. From the second period on, I thought we were taking the play to them.”
Tobias Rieder scored for the Coyotes to give them a 1-0 lead.
“I think the third period was way better than the third period in Anaheim, but we’ve still got to find a way to play like that for 60 minutes,” Rieder said.
But Nate Schmidt tied the game late in the third with Marc-Andre Fleury on the bench in favor of the extra attacker.
Fleury had 27 saves to get the win.
“We found a way again. I thought we played a [heck] of a game tonight. We had a lot of shots and we competed and we battled hard and now we get rewarded at the end of it,” Vegas head coach Gerard Gallant after the win.

Antti Raanta made 42 saves in the loss.
“He was great,” Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said. “He kept us in the game for some stretches in the second. I don’t think they had a ton of [Grade A chances], but I know when they did, Antti was superb.”
