Knights survive Sens’ rally for 5-3 win

In Ottawa Thursday, the Vegas Golden Knights let a three-goal lead evaporate before rallying in the third period to defeat the Senators, 5-3.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves to get the win as the Knights improved to 7-8-1.

“I think it starts in our [defensive] zone. We’re coming out of our [defensive] zone clean and we’re using our speed. I think when we turn pucks over, we’ve got five guys flying into the offensive zone and it’s tough to handle because we’ve got a fast team, and when we work hard like that, you can beat any team with skill as long as you outwork them,” Vegas’ Ryan Reavessaid after the game.

William Carrier and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare rallied Vegas after the Sens had tied the score, 3-3.

“The puck finally went in the net for us,” Vegas coach Gerard Gallant said. “So that was really a key for us, to get five goals tonight. Real happy about that, and I thought, for the most part, we had a real good game.”

Jonathan Marchessault, Shea Theodore and Nick Holden scored to give the Knights the 3-0 lead.

“[The Carrier-Bellemare-Reaves line] played well,” Gallant said. “They were setting the pace again for us tonight, they played real good. So they deserve everything they get.”

Thomas Chabot, Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel scored for Ottawa.

“I was really proud of the boys, the way we battled,” Duchene said. “I thought we did some really good things tonight and obviously, when you tie it 3-3 in the third, it can go either way. We had the momentum. Tough way to lose.”

The Senators dropped to 6-7-3.

Craig Anderson made 37 saves in the loss.

“We just had a bad start, myself included,” Dzingel said. “You can’t give a team like that a couple-goal lead. It’s tough when you battle back, too, after that. So [we’ve] just got to have a better start, myself included. You’ve got to be ready to go.”
