Knights set record in 3-2 OT win over St Louis

In Las Vegas Saturday night, the Golden Knights set a record for fast starts by an expansion club with a 3-2 overtime win over the St Louis Blues.

William Karlsson potted the winner with just under 30 seconds left in extra time.

The Knights are 6-1-0 to break the 100-year old record previously held by the Montreal Canadiens

“We found a way to win and we got two points,” Karlsson said.  “Defensively, just (playing) man-on-man, and then, as soon as they lose the puck, we try to go the other way. I don’t know if there is anything special we do. Just coincidence I guess.”

Malcolm Subban got the start but left the game in the third with a lower body injury.

Oscar Dansk got the win on 10 saves in his NHL debut after his call up from the Chicago Wolves of the American league..

“I was lucky because it was a TV timeout, so I got a little more time I got to move around a little bit, so that was good,” Dansk said. “I tried to move around as much as I could.”

The Blues got goals from Magnus Paajarvi and Alex Pietrangelo .

The Knights’ regulation goals came from Reilly Smith  and Colin Miller; both goals came on the power play.

“I don’t think we’re playing bad on the [penalty kill]. It’s just the details and getting the puck out of our zone. It’s maybe a little troubling for us, but we’re trying to get better,” the Blues; Vladimir Sobotka said of the special teams effort in the game.

Jake Allen took the loss on 19 saves.

“I wanted to play so badly because I wanted to see, more for myself, where I am. Obviously, it’s the best league in the world, so I just felt like I wanted to see where I was,” Dansk said after getting the win. “So it was nice to get the opportunity tonight. It [stinks] that Malcolm went down. He’s been playing unreal. That’s awful that he went down and I’m hoping he can recover quickly. It’s not up to me who plays or not. But I feel like it was good to get this time now.”
