Knights roll to fourth straight win, 8-3, over Chicago

In Chicago Tuesday night, the Vegas Golden Knights won a scrimmage with the Blackhawks, 8-3.

This one got silly after just a few minutes as the Knights posted three goals in each of the first two periods and toyed with the Blackhawks who were caught flat-footed for most of the game.

Vegas has now won four straight and they moved to 13-12-1.

Shea Theodore and Cody Eakin both scored twice in the victory.

“I don’t think it was an 8-3 game. They’re a real fast team. In the first, they were pouring it on. It’s just one of those things sometimes you get those bounces, sometimes you don’t. We had some key saves and got some good bounces too, so that kind of changed it,” Eakin said.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 21 saves and only one of them was a difficult chance for the Hawks.

Dylan Strome had a goal, his first, for the Blackhawks as a new call-up from the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL.

“I think you put yourselves in a hole and it’s hard to score in this league,” Strome said. “Sometimes if you’re opening up chances because you got down 3-0, it ends up in the back of your net, and it did tonight and we didn’t help out our goalie enough.”

Gustav Forsling and Erik Gustafsson also scored for the Blackhawks.

Daniel Carr, Alex Tuch and Eakin scored in the first period outburst for Vegas.

“We were up 3-0 after one, but I didn’t think we played real well at all,” Vegas head coach Gerard Gallant said. “Chicago had some great chances and Fleury made some real key saves in the first period. The truth is, it probably should have been 3-3 after the first, but Fleury made some great saves. And I thought we played a better game after that.”

Ryan Reaves p and William Karlsson also scored for Vegas.

Corey Crawford was left to dry in the breeze of the Knights’ skaters in the low slot; his defense stood around around like traffic pylons.

Crawford made 24 saves and yielded six goals through two periods; he was given the hook, mercifully, in the second intermission.

“We’ve got to be better from the puck drop. We’ve just got to be better. It’s just not acceptable to be playing the way we’re playing. Starting off games (like that), obviously that puts us behind and we’re fighting back the rest of the game,” Chicago’s  Brent Seabrook said of the effort and loss.

Cam Ward who made 11 saves and suffered from the same lack of defense in the third period.
