Knights roll seven in win over Vancouver

On The Strip, the Vegas Golden Knights got two goals each from Evgenii Dadonov and Jonathan Marchessault on Saturday night, in a 7-4 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

Vancouver held a 2-0 lead in the game before collapsing.

“I think [Dadonov’s] been getting better and better. Like all goal scorers he’s a streaky guy,” Golden Knights head coach Peter DeBoer said. “When I look back at the first dozen games, he could easily have three or four more. If or when we get healthy … I think he’s going to score consistently all year.”

Vegas improved to 9-6-0.

“Obviously pretty proud of that,” Marchessault said. “I take a lot of pride in playing for the Golden Knights and being here since Day 1. Working hard every night, trying to help my teammates win a hockey game. VGK is the pride of my career.”

Marchessault’s goals were his 100th and 101st strikes in a Vegas sweater.

Robin Lehner made 39 saves in the Vegas win.

J.T. Miller  and Tanner Pearson scored for the Canucks to give them the early 2-0 lead.

“I thought it was a much better effort from our group tonight. I loved our start in the game,” Canucks head coach Travis Green said. “Obviously there’s a couple of plays in the game that we’d like to have back, and there’s definitely a couple of calls that should’ve never been called against us.”

Vancouver dropped to 5-8-2.

“I didn’t think it was a 7-4 game,” the Canucks’ Oliver Ekman-Larsson said. “I thought we came out harder, like we talked about after the last game. I thought we did a lot of good things in the first and second, and we’d like to have some plays back in the third.”

Dadonov (power play) and Reilly Smith tied the game at 2-2.

Brayden McNabb gave the Knights a 3-2 lead, and Jake Leschyshyn gave Vegas a 4-3 lead.

Each of those leads was tied up by Vancouver’s Nils Hoglander  who hit for two goals in the loss.

“Tonight was not the prettiest game for us,” Marchessault said. “I think we could’ve done a better job in the first two periods, but good teams find a way to win.”

Thatcher Demko made 32 saves in the Canucks loss.

The Canucks are fading in the West, and something needs to be done, quickly, to fix it before they are looking up and everyone but the Arizona Coyotes in the conference ladder.
