It wasn’t easy Sunday for the Golden Knights, but in the end they survived in a 3-2 overtime win over the Arizona Coyotes.
Reilly Smith struck for the game-winner at 3:50 of extra time.
“We’ve done great at home and I think we’ve taken advantage of it,” Smith said. “It was nice to turn that streak around and get those two points.”
Malcolm Subban got the win on the strength of 31 saves.
Vegas got regulation goals from Jonathan Marchessault and Alex Tuch.
“I’m playing with amazing players right now,” Marchessault said. “In your pro career, you play with a lot of different linemates, but I don’t remember playing with two guys I want to play with more than those two.”
Jakob Chychrun returned to the Arizona lineup in his first game of the season following knee surgery; he potted his first goal in the loss.
“This is a date we had in mind for a while now, and it’s the day I’ve been looking forward to for a long time,” Chychrun said. “So to finally get out on the ice with the guys, that’s what it’s all about.”
Derek Stepan also scored for the Coyotes.
Arizona is 1-2-2 in their five and playing better hockey of late.

Scott Wedgewood made 42 saves in taking the loss for the Coyotes.
“[Wedgewood] was excellent, he was terrific,” Coyotes head coach Rick Tocchet said. “The guys owe him. He played great, he got us the point. He was really good tonight for us. Vegas was the better team, obviously.”
Arizona was on the back end of a two games in two nights weekend; they defeated the New Jersey Devils, 5-0, Saturday night in Glendale.
“(For Arizona), it’s tough to have back-to-back games, especially when you have to travel to it. That was part of our game plan, was to try and wear them down, especially in the third period. We were able to get some extra chances. It seemed like they had some tired legs,” Smith of the Coyotes after the win.
