Knights get closer to Pacific top spot with 4-2 win over Kings

The Vegas Strip has been very kind to the Golden Knights in their first season. Sunday night saw them win their seventh straight on home ice, this time a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

The win moved the Knights within a point of first place in the Pacific.

William Karlsson struck for two goals in the opening frame.

“It was a fun game,” Karlsson said. “[The Kings] are a big, strong team. There were a lot of hits out there.”

Maxime Lagace made 27 saves for the win.

Cody Eakin and Alex Tuch also scored for the Knights.

“It’s awesome. It’s one of the more fun games I’ve played. I don’t mind the occasional 7-0, 8-0 win, but when you’re battling for that win against your rivals, so to say, it was a fun game,” Tuch said after the win.

Trevor Lewis and Tanner Pearson scored for the Kings.

“They came after us right away and obviously got the three-goal lead,” Lewis said. “We battled back, but I think we kind of [hurt] ourselves in the first period.”

Jonathan Quick yielded three goals on 11 shots and was given the hook in favor of Darcy Kuemper who made 30 saves in relief.

“Those are pucks [Quick] would love to have back,” LA head coach John Stevens said. “It’s a team game. Johnny’s bailed us out many of nights. That’s certainly not the start we wanted. You dig a hole on the road against any team, especially in here, it’s tough to come back.”

Quick has lost his last five starts.
