Knights cannot hold late lead, lose in OT

In Las Vegas, the visiting Montreal Canadiens rallied back from a 4-2 to defeat the Golden Knights, 5-4.

Max Domi completed the comeback when he scored 26 seconds into the extra session.

“I think, overall, it was just a huge game. We knew that,” Domi said. “It was a big game for [goalie Keith Kinkaid], he played unbelievably. He gave us a chance there, and we answered. We showed a lot of character.”

The Habs pushed the game to overtime on goals from Tomas Tatar and Brendan Gallagher in the third period.

We can be really proud of this,” Tatar said. “[Arizona] had been playing really well, and same for Vegas. To bear down and grab the four points on this trip, it’s huge. We’ve talked about this; we’ve set our goals and we’re on the right path right now.”

Kinkaid made 31 saves in his first start with the Canadiens.

William Karlsson, Alex Tuch,Cody Glass, and Max Pacioretty scored for the Golden Knights.

“I don’t think we were that bad,” Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant said. “The two goals [to tie the game] went off people. We had a 4-2 lead, we’re playing pretty good hockey. I wasn’t totally happy with all of the game, but it was still good enough to win. I don’t think it’s inconsistency; they got some hockey luck in the end. What do you do about that?”

Phillip Danault and Jonathan Drouin also scored for Montreal.

“You want to call it resilience or character,” Domi said. “You name it, the team showed a lot tonight. We didn’t necessarily play the best hockey the first couple of periods, but you know what? Good teams find ways to battle through that adversity. Back to backs are tough, they’re very, very tough, and we found a way to stay with it and [Kinkaid] gave us a chance all night. When you get in overtime, anything can happen.”

Marc-Andre Fleury made 25 saves in the loss.

“It’s not acceptable for us,” Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault said. “They were on a back to back and we laid off in the third period. It’s not enough. Not good enough for us.”
