WAYNE, NJ – Pro Hockey News, in conjunction with the Federal Hockey League, is pleased to announce the “Players of the Month” for December.
From the Danbury Whalers , Alec Kirschner was selected as the player of the month for December. On December 3, Kirschner erupted for six goals against the Cape Cod Bleufins in a 9-2 win for the Whalers. Over the month of December he picked up 32 points and paired his goal outburst with an equally impressive four assist (and two goals) night also against the Bluefins. He was a +12 over the month’s games as well.
The 13 games played thus far this season have been successful for Kirschner and Danbury as they pursue the rest of the league for the top spot in the regular season title chase. He is a steady member of the top line for Danbury.
Meanwhile, Adam Dekker of the New Jersey Outlaws was selected as the goaltender of the month. The 26-year-old Dekker was 6-1-0 over the month of December including two shutouts. He shutout Danville 3-0 in early December stopping 21 shots. Then in late December he stoned Brooklyn 8-0 in making 34 saves on the night. His lone loss of the month was to Danbury, 3-2, when he faced 27 shots.
Through 11 games this season Dekker is 10-1-0 with a 0.931 save percentage and 2.19 goals against average.
Over in Brookly, Andrew Owsiak was selected as the rookie of the month from the Aviators. Owsiak comes to the FHL after four-years at DartmouthCollege (NCAA I) where he played in 107 career games for the Big Green. He netted 14 goals and 28 assists for 42 points. In December, Owsiak picked up seven goals and 11 points for the Aviators as the club went 5-4-1 on the month’s campaign. His best game of the moth featured a hat trick in a 7-3 win over Cape Cod. He also added an assist that night for a four point effort.
Through 25 games in this FHL season Owsiak has picked up 31 points on 15 goals.
