It has happened before but it is still hard to conceive; the Los Angeles Kings’ Dustin Brown played in his 1,000th NHL game Thursday night and made it memorable when he potted the game-winner in overtime in a 2-1 win over the visiting Colorado Avalanche.
“He’s been doing it his entire career, all 999 games, and he did it in his 1,000th tonight,”
Alec Martinez said. “And I don’t expect anything to change from here on out.”
Martinez had a goal in the third period that forced the extra session.
The Kings improved to 22-10-4 with the win.
After a dismal road trip back east, the Kings have won straight and Jonathan Quick stopped 31 shots for the win.
“The funny thing about it is just how many different roads there are to 1,000 games,” Brown said. “[Gaborik] played with four different teams, had a lot of injuries. I played with one team and — knock on wood — been relatively healthy.”
Gabriel Landeskog had the lone strike for the Avs.

Semyon Varlamov made 25 saves in taking the loss.
“They never give up, they play a full game, so they scored the goal to tie the game. I thought we outplayed them today, actually. But two breakaways on the three-on-three was completely unacceptable,” Varlamov said after the loss in OT.
The loss dropped the Avs to 16-15-3.
“I think we played good,” the Vas’ Nikita Zadorovsaid. “[Varlamov] was unbelievable tonight. We shut it down almost until the end, and they got good goals out there. They’re going to get an opportunity every once in a while, and we have to score.”
