In Los Angeles Thursday, the Kings needed a late goal from Drew Doughty to force extra time in a tight game with the visiting Vegas Golden Knights.
But Vegas’ David Perron struck with 90 seconds left in the extra session to give the
Knights a 3-2 win and put a little more distance between themselves and the Kings.
“Our team is coming together more and more just as our play gets better, and it’s fun,” Vegas’ James Neal said. “Every day is fun, so right through our organization, everything has been great all year and it shows on the ice.”
The Knights had a 2-1 lead on goals fro Brendan Leipsic and Jonathan Marchessault before Doughty tied it up with less than five minutes left in regulation.
“We just keep playing our game,” Perron said. “Just the way we played, I thought we were the better team.”
Marian Gaborik also scored for LA.
“In some ways, I don’t even think we deserved a point, so we’re obviously kind of lucky and happy now that we got it, but that wasn’t a very good performance by us,” Doughty said.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 26 saves in picking up the win.
“I think everybody chips in. Every night, everybody comes in ready to work. And I feel like sometimes, some guys shine; some other night, some other guys do. And I think the work ethic that this team shows night after night is awesome, and it’s a big part of why we have success,” Fleury said after the win.

Jonathan Quick made 36 saves in the loss as the Kings dropped to 22-11-5.
“The intention to play the game the right way wasn’t there, especially in the second period against a team that played last night,” Kings head coach John Stevens said after the loss in OT.
