In Los Angeles, the Kings’ Drew Doughty struck for the game-winner, on the power play, over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks with just 12 seconds remaining in extra time for a 3-2 win.
The win means little but some pride for the Kings who were eliminated form the playoff race, seemingly in November of last year.
Michael Amadio and Austin Wagner had game-tying goals for the Kings.
“The speed is such a big part of the game and every once in a while he just takes off and he makes something out of nothing,” Kings head coach Willie Desjardins said. “It wasn’t that there was anything there. He just made it there because of his speed, and he just about had another later, too, where he did the same thing. It’s great. I think all the guys wish that they had those wheels, makes it easier.”
Jack Campbell made 33 saves to get the win.
Erik Gustafsson and Alex DeBrincat where the Hawks’ strikers.
“Weren’t able to come through on the power play, they come through at the end on the power play, so you can look at a lot of little differences and details that end up deciding the game,” Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane said.
Chicago remains in the hunt despite a 2-4-1 record over the last seven games.
The Blackhawks are six points back of a playoff spot and have eight points on the table.

Corey Crawford made 26 saves in the loss.
“You never know when a game’s on the line,” Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton said. “The game is always on the line, and if you let down for five, 10 seconds and get loose or soft or not sharp you get punished, so that’s kind of what happened, even though we did a lot of good things. It don’t matter if you don’t put it all together.”
