Kings score late to down Sabres, 4-2

The Los Angeles Kings are back to playing solid, confident hockey and Saturday night they got late goal from Drew Doughty on the power play, to send them past the Buffalo Sabres, 4-2.

The loss keeps the Sabres winless on the season.

Doughty’s goal made it 3-2 and Tanner Pearson iced the win with an empty-netter.

The Kings used the power play effectively with three goals on the night; Dustin Brown and Tyler Toffoli also scored with the man advantage.

“We weren’t disappointed with the way the power play has been playing,” Doughty said. “It sounds stupid, we had zero goals up until now, but we were getting good chances, hitting posts. Just not getting it done, but we knew it was going to come if we stick to the basics.”

The Sabres are 0-4-1 on the young season and got goals from Zemgus Girgensons and Jack Eichel.

“I think maybe at this point guys are gripping their stick a little bit. I know I am,” Eichel said. “Just maybe overthinking some plays that come naturally.”

Jonathan Quick made 23saves for the Kings who are 3-0-1 on the season.

Robin Lehnertook the loss on 25 saves.

“I think everybody as a group, as a whole, we were into the battle. We can’t take anything away from what we did tonight. We can’t get down on our guys. I thought they competed. They did everything but win,” Sabres head coach Phil Housleysaid after the loss.
