Kings score late and often in 5-2 win over Oilers

In Los Angeles Wednesday night, the Edmonton Oilers were unable to continue their recent streak in a 5-2 loss to the Kings.

Darcy Kuemper made 25 saves to pick up the win.

With the score tied 2-2 late in the third period, LA’s Paul LaDue struck for the game-winner.

“They obviously gained some momentum in the second,” LaDue said. “We took a couple penalties we shouldn’t have. I thought we came out strong in the third and we executed to our game plan, and it paid off.”

Adrian KempeKyle CliffordAlex Iafallo and Anze Kopitar added markers for LA in the win.

Connor McDavid continued and Leon Draisaitl scored for the Oilers who were trying to keep their recent winning ways going; the Oilers are 5-2-1 in their eight games.

Edmonton dropped to 23-25-4 with the loss.

“These are games we want to win,” Clifford said. “We want to have an identity that we’re a third-period hockey team, so we came out ready to play.”

Kuemper lost his shutout streak of more than 190 minutes in the first period.

“From this point forward, that’s when it is really going to pay dividends. We think we have two goalies that we believe in a great deal. We have two goalies that are capable of winning us hockey games and we’re going to need them both down the stretch,” LA head coach John Stevens said of his goalie tandem.
