In Los Angeles Thursday, the LA Kings found their offense in a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in overtime.
Nic Dowd scored midway through extra time to give the Kings a much needed win after three straight shutout losses.
“We’ll take them,” Dowd said. “I think we’d rather win in regulation to take the stress off of us and not make (goalie Peter Budaj) have to play overtime every night, but we’ll take the win.”
The win pushed the Kings to 5-6-0 on the season.
Sidney Crosby scored both Pens goals.
“You just try to go (to the net) and hopefully nobody gets a stick or is able to box you out,” Crosby said. “But I think (Kris Letang) made a great play to have his head up and look for my stick.”
Trevor Lewis got the Kings on the board, finally, in the second period; the goal tied the game at 1-1/
“We just kept talking about composure and trying to make the right play,” Kings head coach Darryl Sutter said. “I think everyone was open there and Lewis caught it at the end.”
Matt Greene also scored for the Kings when he connected in the third period to give LA a 2-1 lead.
“We needed to end that skid. I thought that was a good game for us against a really good team coming here,” Greene said. “We needed the points to keep pace in this division. It’s a big win, obviously you want to get this in regulation, but we will take the points how we get them.”
Peter Budaj stopped 21 shots for the win.
Marc-Andre Fleury took the loss on 24 saves.
