Kings rally past Arizona

In Glendale, the Arizona Coyotes held a 3-1 lead over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday and simply frittered away the advantage.

The Kings scored four unanswered goals, including three in the third period, for a 5-3 win.

Cal Petersen made 20 saves in the LA win.

Drew Doughty and Adrian Kempe hit for a pair of goals each in the win, both skaters added an assist.

“We always know we don’t give up,” Doughty said. “I don’t think there’s a single guy in our room that’s going to give up, it doesn’t matter if it’s 5-0. We play hard until the end.”

The Kings improved to 26-17-7.

Clayton Keller, Lawson Crouse, and Anton Stralman  were the Arizona strikers in the 3-1 lead.

two periods.

“They scored, made it 3-2, and that put us back on our heels,” Coyotes head coach Andre Tourigny said. “And I didn’t like the way we played the third. I thought we froze, kind of, and instead of digging deep, we forced things.”

The Coyotes dropped to 12-33-4.

“Going up there, we know they’re going to have a push,” the Coyotes’ Barrett Hayton said. “I think just we’ve got to manage that better.”

LA’s Trevor Moore  added a single marker, his goal tied the game, 3-3, in the third period.

“You tighten up a little bit more because it’s not going in and, before you know it, you’ve made some some mistakes on judgment situations, and it’s in your net,” Kings coach Todd McLellan said. “The good thing is that we could reel it back in and stick with the plan … and leave here with points.”

Karel Vejmelka made 34 saves in the Coyotes loss.
