In Los Angeles, the Kings trailed by two goals heading into the third period in their match with the Arizona Coyotes.
Instead of rolling over, the Kings rallied with three goals for a 4-3.
“We weren’t ready to back down,” LA’s Kale Clague said. “I’m really happy for everyone to get back on the winning track, and I know we all just want to carry that over into the weekend.”
Carl Grundstrom completed the rally with the game-winner at 13:55.
Jonathan Quick made 24 saves to get the win.
Adrian Kempe got the rally started early in the third to make the score, 3-2.
“We did a great job on the kill and [Kempe’s] goal got us going a little bit, and we just played on our toes throughout the third,” Clague said. “A lot of good O-zone time and we just kept pushing and we got our bounces.”
Three minutes later, Jeff Carter tied the game, 3-3.
The Coyotes got goals from Lawson Crouse, Ilya Lyubushkin and Johan Larsson
“I think we’re at our best when we’re playing on top of guys and taking away their time and space,” Crouse said. “The two games here against L.A., I guess in five periods out of the six we took away their time and space. This is a learning lesson for our group. You can’t take your foot off the gas. We’re not happy in there, but we have a group that’s ready to bounce back.”
Jaret Anderson-Dolan also scored for the Kings.
“Well, that’s called leadership,” LA head coach Todd McLellan said. “You put yourself out there with your words and then you follow it up through actions. And we’re fortunate to have him and a few others that have been through some of the big battles here and won eventually.
“A lot of talk over the summer about ‘Where’s Drew’s game?’ Drew’s game is outstanding, and you really have to be around him to appreciate the minutes, the locker room, the energy he brings, the work he’s put in over the summer. He’s as good a defenseman as there is in the National Hockey League right now, in my opinion.”
Adin Hill made 26 saves in the loss.
