Kings power failure continues in 5-0 loss to Lightning

For the Los Angeles Kings, it appears that if Jeff Carter does not score then no one scores.  On their current road trip, the Kings have won 1-0 then lost two straight by shutout.

On Tuesday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning hung a 5-0 loss on the Kings.

Ben Bishop made 28 stops as he picked up his first shutout of the season for the Bolts.

“Obviously it wasn’t the start we wanted but those last two periods were really good hockey,” Bishop said. “We played good defense and we scored on our opportunities. The last few games we’ve had some opportunities and just haven’t broken out. [Tuesday] we took advantage of those opportunities.”

Lightning goals came from Nikita Kucherov who scored twice and Jonathan Drouin, Gabriel Dumont and Braydon Coburn.

“Bishop played extremely well in the first period when we needed him. We felt extremely fortunate to come to the room with the lead, clearly Ben Bishop had a big part in that. But once that happened we gave up nine shots the rest of the game,” Tampa head  coach Jon Cooper said of the first period outcome.

Tampa improved to 24-24-6 after winning back to back games for the first time in weeks.

“We need a string of wins, this is two, we want to make 3-4 in a row,” Drouin said. “That’s what we need. We need points, we need to put together wins.”

Peter Budaj made 16 saves as the Kings dropped to 27-23-4.  Their last two losses have been by the 5-0 final.

“You know I think our start was good,” Kings captain Anze Kopitar said. “We had chances in the first 5-10 minutes. It could have been a lot different game but it’s the second game in a row that we’ve been scored on five times.”
