The new season in the Pacific opened Wednesday night with the San Jose Sharks hosting the Los Angeles Kings.

With that excitement established, the Kings quickly extinguished the revelry when Tyler Toffoli scored on the power play early in the first period.

Toffoli snapped a writer past Martin Jones that went high short side as Jones was cheating to his right.

That was the high point of the night for the Kings who surrendered two goals to the Sharks in a 2-1 loss.  They also lost Jonathan Quick after the first period to an injury.

“We all know what [Jonathan Quick] brings for our team and what he’s done here. We can’t be thinking about that, we have to be positive. [Jeff Zatkoff] played unbelievable coming into today. We’re confident in what he has for our team,” Toffoli said after the game.

Brent Burns and Logan Couture were the goal scorers for the Sharks.

“We played the type of game we wanted to,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. “We made a couple of mistakes on the boards. They are a big, heavy team in the O-zone. We handled it pretty well. We should have done more in their zone.”

Jeff Zatkoff replaced Quick in the crease for the start of the second period and played well.
