Kings hold off Oilers, 6-4

In Los Angeles Saturday night, the Kings kept pace with the Anaheim Ducks who are pressuring them for the top spot in the Pacific; LA downed the Edmonton Oilers, 6-4.

Tyler Toffoli and Jeff Carter each had two goals in the win.

“We want to get our game [at] 100 percent going into the playoffs, and playing the right way,” Toffoli said. “It’s a good sign when we’re scoring big goals, but at the same time, we’ve got to tighten it up a little bit.”LA Kings 3rd

The win was not easy as the Oilers rallied in the third period from 5-2 deficit to pull within one.

Carter scored his second of the game into an empty net to seal it.

Jeff Carter‘s line was as good as those three guys have been all year,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. “They were outstanding.”

Jonathan Quick made 29 saves for the win including a great skate save on Patrick Maroon in the second period.

“I thought I scored there,” Maroon said. “He made a hell of a save on the toe cap. Unfortunately, that could have made it a 3-[2] game. It could have changed the momentum, maybe. But I thought they played all in our zone in the second period. We had no momentum.”

Trevor Lewis picked up the game-winner for the Kings on a shorthanded goal on a play that left the Oilers’ netminder confused as the puck stopped short of the trapezoid.

“It died on him and then he didn’t get back in time and there was mass confusion,” Edmonton coach Todd McLellan said. “Probably one that broke our back.”

Laurent Brossoit took the loss for the Oilers; Brossoit is 0-4-1 in five NHL starts.

“We left LB out to dry,” Edmonton’s Patrick Maroon said of his goalie.
