The Los Angeles Kings started their five-game road trip with no offense and little positive to show for a 0-3-0 start. But they finished strong including a 4-3 win over the hobbled Blue Jackets in Columbus Monday night.
Jonathan Quick made 23 saves including some dazzlers in the third for the win.
Jeff Carter, Dwight King and Tyler Toffoli racked up three goals and two assists in the win to bolster a flagging offense.
“The line was really good,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. “They were our best forwards by a long shot.”
Dustin Brown added a fourth goal to the sheet.
“We’re fighting for spots in the standings,” King said. “It’s pretty obvious that we need to have this effort every night.”
Curtis McElhinney was busy in the Jackets net facing 44 shots and saving 40, but it wasn’t enough to stave off a team more desperate than Columbus.
“We competed and played a really solid game,” Toffoli said. “We carried the play. A little bit in the third they had a push but we did a great job staying in it and finished the game.”
