The Los Angeles Kings can feel good about themselves at least for a night.
On Sunday, the Kings ended a five-game home losing skid with a 5-2 win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers with three goals in the third period.
Dustin Brown picked up a hat trick and ended an eight-game drought of his own.
“Sometimes it just comes down to players feeling good on certain nights, and I think me and [Kopitar] and [Alex Iafallo] all felt really well going into the game,” Brown said.
Anze Kopitarhad a goal and three points on the night for the Kings.
“Our passing was a lot cleaner as a line and as a team, so when you can pass the puck and move the puck up the ice it opens up a lot more ice,” Brown said. “I think a lot of the goals we scored tonight were the result of good passing, really.”
The Oilers dropped to 10-11-2 with the loss and are 1-1-1 under new head coach Ken Hitchcock.
Calvin Petersen made 32 saves to get the win as LA improved to 8-14-1.
Alex Chiasson scored both Oilers’ goals.
“He’s (Chiasson ) a really, really smart offensive player,” Hitchcock said. “He doesn’t have great foot speed, but he’s got great offensive instincts and where he’s really good is down low. He gets himself into great spots. I think we’ve got to consider bouncing him up one notch.”
The Kings led, 3-2, late before Brown and Matt Luff added an empty net goals in the final minute of regulation.

Cam Talbot made 27 saves in the loss.
“I’m really excited by the potential. I know we can get better and I know that it’s there, but I also know we came in three tough buildings,” Hitchcock said. “All their best players, they all got rings and they were the best players tonight. And we still went at those guys pretty hard, so that’s a good sign.”
